Tamanu Oil: The Quiet Power of Green Gold
Most skin oils in the shelves are synthetic, heavily processed, or have untraceable sources.
Our Tamanu oil is extracted from the nuts of the Bitaog (Calophyllum inophyllum) tree, which thrives natively throughout the Philippine archipelago. These are wild-harvested from fallen nuts by local and indigenous women communities.
Frequently asked questions
Is The Calm Balm for my daily skincare or for targeted treatment?
Both. Calm Balm is gentle enough for your skincare routine. Apply on clean dry skin 2x daily for 1 to 4 weeks to see the effect.
It is profoundly effective as a first-aid treatment for wounds, scars and irritations on face and body. Ideal especially in the evening to align its deep-repairing action with the skin’s natural overnight regeneration cycle.
What skin type can use Calm Balm? Will it make me break out?
Tamanu Oil is generally safe for most skin types, including sensitive, dry, combination, aging and acne-prone skin. It moisturizes without clogging pores. It has a low comedogenic rating of 2 out of 5 (where 0 doesn't clog pores at all) and is anti-inflammatory, which means it can actually help prevent breakouts. But as with any new product, patch test first and monitor how your skin reacts.
Compared to other cosmetic oils, Tamanu is considered medium viscosity. It is lighter than: Avocado oil, Coconut oil and Olive oil.
For acne-prone skin: In vitro tests have also shown strong antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for inflammatory acne. Additionally, its high linoleic acid content helps regulate sebum production, making it beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin despite its rich texture.
Why is Calm Balm a first aid treatment?
Tamanu Oil is called "Nature’s First Aid Kit" for its ability to treat everything from acne to burns. Numerous biological studies have confirmed its modern uses in cellular regeneration.Think of it as an alternative to steroid and antibiotic creams. It repairs and renews skin deeply across all three skin layers (epidermis, dermis, hypodermis).
Tamanu Oil has been documented to successfully treat burns and scars in hospital settings. It promotes the healing and growth of new skin cells (keratinocytes and fibroblasts)—without the harsh side effects of synthetic or harsh ingredients (such as peeling, dry skin, photosensitivity or skin barrier damage).
Here are some important considerations:
- Allergic Reactions: Since tamanu oil is derived from a nut, individuals with nut allergies should avoid using it.
- Not for Open Wounds: It is not advisable on open wounds or major injuries.
A patch test is recommended for anyone trying Calm Balm for the first time to check for any adverse reactions.
Where do you source your ingredients?
Tamanu oil is a rare, prized, earthy green-yellow-hued nut oil from trees that thrive in Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands. Our Tamanu Oil is freshly harvested from local communities in pristine, biodiverse coastal areas in remote communities of Negros and Mindanao in the Philippines.
Tamanu oil is a highly sustainable resource since the tree nuts fall naturally to the ground. The harvesting process does not disrupt the precious coastal forest ecosystem.
